I set out for a walk, because, well, I felt like it. I had no idea where I was going to go, and instead just turned and crossed streets as I saw fit. I think I'm going to do this more frequently. It's fun seeing the neighborhood with fresh eyes and at a slower pace - even slower than going by bike.

I immediately wished I'd had my main camera on me.... next time, I guess.

Birdtown is a little neighborhood on the southeast end of Lakewood. Only a mile or so walk from my house, but an area I almost never find myself venturing through. It's an interesting area, because it has much more of tight-knit community feel to it. The streets are shorter, and interconnect a lot more than the heart of Lakewood. (For example, my street is nearly a mile long going north to south!) The layout is tidy, the yards seem closer, yet bigger, and there is a lot more variety in terms of architecture from one door to the next than you find throughout the rest of the city.

There is actually quite a bit of business development going on here right now, turning into more of a trendy area than it was considered in years past. There is (supposedly) a brewery going in, in an old church, there's pretty outstanding restaurants, and not to mention, a cider house with traditionally made cider (really the only other time I find myself in this nook is for the cider!).

Anyway, I think I'm going to make it a point to explore this end of a Lakewood more this summer.
