 Berry Sunrise Smoothie Bowl

I've been known to drink the exact same smoothie, every morning, for months at a time. I'm a creature of habit, what can I say? 

This summer my husband became obsessed with afternoon smoothies, and while the ingredients are almost always in our freezer, I was reintroduced to shaking up my morning routine via inspiration from his random concoctions. Not to mention, he took pleasure in the fact that Ada officially prefer's his creations to mine (of which I've one, and I'm sure she is long sick of). Anyway, branching out of my same old same old reminded me that I used to love smoothie bowls. How could I have possibly forgotten that?!

So here you have it. My latest messy morning creation. The base is quite simple. It's a banana, some frozen mango, a handful of spinach, and a splash of water. The fun part comes in with "decorating", if you will. Some berries, homemade granola, and a sprinkling of chia seeds. Bam. Breakfast was Pinterest worthy in no time.

 My Mess


  • 1 medium banana

  • 1/2 cup frozen mango*

  • handful fresh baby spinach

  • Water

  • Homemade Granola**

  • Fresh strawberries, sliced**

  • Fresh blueberries**

  • Chia seeds**

The How-To:

  1. Make your smoothie bowl base by blending the banana, frozen mango, spinach, and a splash of water in blender until smooth. (I start with maybe 1/3 cup??? and add more as needed. I prefer my smoothie bowls to be a bit thicker, so add water until it is the consistency of your liking!)

  2. Pour the smoothie base into a bowl and garnish with granola, strawberries, blueberries, chia seeds, or whatever other delicious toppings suit your fancy.

* I completely eyeball how much frozen fruit I add. Feel free to go wild and do the same.
